MMA is an acronym that actually stands for Mixed Martial Arts. It's a sport wherein two fighters duke it out on a specific ring trying to knock, submit and ultimately outlast the other fighter until they could be declared the winner. It's a brutal sport, no doubt about that, but as to any other man-to-man hand combat sports, there's always something that makes this sport very appealing to fans and viewers alike. It's a sport that's got it all, blood, sweat and kicks and punches that usually find themselves connecting to some vulnerable part in a fighter's body. It's like this movie called “Never Back Down.” This movie is practically made because of MMA and the amount of skill and talent that their fighters have. It's not mindless grounding and pounding, mind you, it's actually quite a controlled sport that holds their fighters in such high a regard that everybody leaves the ring with their heads held up high. 1. There's no role playing involved. There's no pretend in MMA; the blood you see and the pain you might witness is all real – there's no smoke and mirrors, special effects or choreographed moves. There's just one guy on each corner figuring out one another and determining what the best way to strike each other is. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why MMA is such a hit among fans; there's no pretending involved. So practically, once the fight starts, you don't really know who would win and you can count on it that both fighters would definitely fight with everything that they have got. All the hits, punches, kicks, tackles and submission moves are real. And you can clearly see the effects of these blows on the fighters' faces when they black out from the sheer force of it connecting to the other fighter's body. 2. The skills that these athletes have are all real. MMA fighters are one of the most respected and most highly regarded athletes in our time. They train for years and years all for the culmination of one event – a match between their rivals for a championship title or simply just a rematch or a grudge match. It takes a lot to compete in MMA, and there are only a handful of people in the world who can fight in MMA – and an even lesser number than that could be worthy enough to be called champions. 3. It's a mix of a whole lot of martial arts that it becomes very, very interesting. Different fighters in this sport have different backgrounds. They come from the four corners of the world imposing their will on other fighters as they strive to make a name for themselves in and out of the ring. And more often than not, most of these fighters have different specialties, which they could use to their advantage when they step in the ring for their fight. It's not in every fighting sport that you get to see people with different martial arts backgrounds fight it out. |
