Four Ways To Store Your Collectibles And Memorabilia

Collectors naturally take pride in their collection and the more unique and rarer their collection is, the prouder they become. Due to this pride, most collectors place their collection in areas where visitors, family and friends can see and admire it.

One has to bear in mind that these collectibles and memorabilia have to be kept in tip top shape in order for it not to devaluate. Here are some ways to care for these items.

1. Display cases. Collectibles and memorabilia should be handled as minimal as possible. You wouldn't want people with greasy hands touching your beloved autographed baseball and bat. You wouldn't want the elements like the air and water to ruin your collection now, do you?

Well, we all know that collections are good for the eyes only. Handling the item too often can result to minute damages which does not only affect its physical appearance but its value as well.

Collectibles and some memorabilia should be kept as pristine as possible; therefore, if you have a wide collection of autographed items, you might want to put them inside display cases where the viewers can see it clearly without having to touch it. Examples of items that can be placed in display cases are uniforms, balls, bats, sticks and even caps or helmets.

2. Binders, clear books and card holders. If you prefer collecting sports cards along with flyers and ticket stubs, then you use these to store as well as protect them. Most binders and card holders are made from transparent materials, usually plastic, so you are able to visualize the cards or stubs without having to touch them.

Placing your sports cards in binders and card holders can help keep the edges from peeling or from bending. Keep in mind that when trading for sports cards, you will have to consider its overall condition and that includes no bent or crumpled edges and other defects. In addition, it also protects the cards from getting wet.

3. Storage boxes and resealable bags. Over the years you will end up collecting items in huge numbers and since there might be too many of them, you certainly cannot display every single one of them, unless of course you have a whole room turned into your display area.

In case you don't have the luxury of having a room for your entire collection, you can always store some of the items inside storage boxes or resealable bags. Just make sure though that these boxes don't contain harmful chemicals that can potentially damage your collection.

4. Frames. For leaflets and programs, it is best to store them in frames. If you have a collection of vintage sports leaflets and programs, then storing them along with other items is really not a good idea simply because these items are rather fragile and can tear easily. Placing these items in frames is a good way to protect and keep it from tearing apart. In addition, it will also allow your friends and guests to view the item without the risk of them damaging it.
