Four Things To Do With Your Sports Collection

Got a great collection going and you don't know exactly what to do with it? There are many things you can do with your collection even if you have stopped collecting things to add to it. The question is about how passionate you are to keep it and to maintain it.

Imagine having to get rid of all those sports cards just because you believe you have outgrown them. And imagine the value that they must have gained over the years, only you can't do anything about it because you gave them away or threw them in the trash. This is quite tragic and you don't want to do this with whatever you are collecting. Here are a few things you can do with the collection that you have right now.

• Display them – Have a great collection of sports team baseball caps? Or maybe you have a collection of pins with your favorite team logos? Whatever you have, it's best that you don't store these items away in a box or in the basement. If you are proud of your collection then you should show it to the world by displaying it. Of course, you may not want to dress your whole house up with all that you have collected. What you can do is set aside some space in your room to place your collection. This way, whenever you see the things you have, you can remember what you went through to get them. Surely, these are good memories that you can never part with.

• Trade them – Know someone who has something that you want and who wants something from your collection? You may consider doing a trade so that you can get that item. Don't let your collection rot away in the basement or in the attic. Let it come alive and trade hands so that the collection evolves and other peoples' collections evolve as well. This is a great way not only to make a better collection but you might make some dear friends in the process as well.

• Maintain your collection – By maintaining, we don't mean adding to or subtracting from it. It simply means that you should take care of the things that you collect. Don't let them gather dust. Do you have a pin collection? Shine the pins once in a while so that they don't rust. Sports mugs? Wash them and wipe them for that trophy shine. And if you collect clothing, like baseball caps, be sure to wash them and clean them just right so that you don't end up damaging them in the process. Bottom line? A good collection is one that looks new.

• Give your collection away – Now this may be a difficult thing to do but once you feel you have outgrown a collection, you shouldn't just throw away what you worked hard to accumulate. What you can do is search for someone who can continue what you have started. It's best that you ask someone in the family or someone who is related. Otherwise, you can always sell your collection to someone you know will take care of it and benefit from it as well.
